Sandstone Ice Fest, Jan 6-8

The Minnesota Climbers Association is proud to host the 12th annual Sandstone Ice Festival. Everyone is invited!

The tradition of this winter celebration continues as the flaming ice tool has been passed to the Minnesota Climbers Association. Thank you Tony Vavricka and everyone involved for organizing such a wonderful event and helping us with the transition!

Free camping is available in the park for the event!


Rentals provided by University of Minnesota Duluth’s Recreational Sports Outdoor Program

Rental hours:
Saturday from 8am to 4pm
Sunday from 9am to 1pm

Boots $10
Crampons $5
Harness $5

Helmet included in any rental at no additional cost. All rentals made first come, first served. ID required.

The night festivities will take place at the Audubon Center of the North Woods (54165 Audubon Drive, Sandstone, MN 55072) at the Crosby Lodge (

There are dinning and lodging options available ($60 gets you a bed, dinner and breakfast)!

We need to have a certain number of attendees willing to commit to dinner, before we can make this happen. There will likely be a dinner only option too. Please contact Kyra as soon as possible if you are interested


The Frozen Chili Cook-Off will take place late afternoon at the Sandstone Ice Park. Bring your best; and a bowl and spoon!
